Go faster with fructose

Go faster with fructose!

Research indicates that you could benefit from superior fuelling if Fructose is included in your carbohydrate mix powering you on to your next PB.

During a long race one of the limiting factors to performance is carbohydrate supply. As the body uses up far more than can normally be consumed; carbohydrate stores dwindle until the onset of fatigue. Regular sports drinks and gels can provide carbohydrate at a rate generally accepted as supplying around 1g per minute (60g per hour), with higher intakes sometimes resulting in stomach upset and a detriment in performance as they may not be transported across the intestinal wall for use. Carbohydrates in energy products are generally supplied by Glucose or Maltodextrin which have a higher uptake rate than fructose sugar. Research from the British Journal of Nutrition however, shows that the combination of Maltodextrin or Glucose with Fructose results in a 40% greater use of carbohydrate, enabling ingestion of 1.5 grams of carbohydrate per minute (90g per hour) rather than the typical 1g.

Taking on your carbohydrate in gel form provides a reliable strategy for fuelling during races as they are easy to carry and consume on the go, allowing you to control your carbohydrate intake carefully, washing down your gels with water supplied on the course. If you're looking to benefit from greater fuel uptake you are therefore sensible to select a gel including fructose in its ingredients, such as Maxifuel's Viper Active gels, to power you on to your best time.

Maxifuel Viper Active Gels deliver more energy

Maxifuel's Viper Active gels deliver four different carbohydrates, including Maltodextin, sucrose, dextrose and fructose. It is believed that each carbohydrate has a different intestinal transporter and that ingesting a large amount of any carbohydrate can result in these individual transporters becoming saturated. This Quad Carb formula should therefore maximise carbohydrate uptake through different transporters optimising carbohydrate delivery.
