Caffeine

A guide to caffeine

Caffeine is now one of the most widely used substances amongst endurance athletes due to its potential ergogenic effects during activity. Various research trials and reviews including Kalmar andCaffarelli (2004) Exercise Sport Science suggest caffeine has a direct affect on the central nervous system and increases the release of adrenaline while also enhancing mental focus when used in a moderate dosage of 3-9mg/kg body weight (approximately 210-630mg for a 70kg runner).

The Maxifuel Viper Focus Range contains a unique array of products including powders, bars, gels and capsules all containing excellent volumes of caffeine to help enhance performance before or during any tough run or race. The range of products have been cleverly designed to fit in with every training situation –Viper Boost is ideal for sipping on 40min prior to starting whereas the Viper Boost gels are perfect for taking on a long run and consuming on the go to help carry you through to the end.

The human body has an ability to build a tolerance to caffeine this is why I would suggested you refrain from using caffeine for at least one week prior to a race allowing your body to reduce susceptibility and enhance performance benefits when products are consumed.
